The Gledhill Torrent Stainless SP SOL is a premium solar thermal store cylinder designed for efficient hot water solutions in both domestic and commercial applications. Engineered to harness solar energy, it ensures a sustainable and cost-effective hot water supply.

This cylinder allows homeowners to utilize energy from solar sources, wood-burning, or solid fuel boilers as heat sources. Once these alternative energy sources are exhausted, it reverts to conventional boiler energy.

Hot Water and Heating

The Torrent Stainless SP SOL delivers high-performance mains pressure hot water through a highly efficient plate heat exchanger. Typically, the central heating circuit is supplied directly from the boiler, though an auxiliary heating circuit can connect from the store. In this case, the solid fuel source will provide energy to the auxiliary circuit, limited to the energy input from the solid fuel appliance.

This sealed primary (SP) model allows the use of a smaller feed and expansion tank, simplifying the positioning of the F&E tank since the main heating circuit does not require it.

Electric Back-Up Gledhill Torrent Solar Cylinder

An immersion element is included, designed for emergency electric back-up for hot water and to provide emergency energy to the auxiliary heating circuit. If a low carbon or renewable electricity source is available, it can be connected to the immersion element to supply heat input to the thermal store, reducing reliance on fossil fuel boilers and lowering running costs.

• Vent pipes shown through the side of the feed and expansion tank may not be suitable for all systems; installers must verify compatibility.
• The standard open vented store depends on a feed and expansion tank positioned above the highest radiator point to ensure adequate head for the connected system. The Torrent Stainless SP SOL can be installed anywhere in the property as the domestic hot water is at mains pressure.
• The cylinder can be installed as a standard ‘S’ plan or ‘Y’ plan, offering flexibility on the location of the feed and expansion tank. However, in this configuration, the central heating output will not gain heat from the solar thermal input.
• The feed and expansion tank must accommodate water expansion for the entire system (solid fuel boiler, cylinder, open flue boiler, and auxiliary heating).
• The feed and expansion tank is not included but can be ordered as an optional extra.
• Copper feed and expansion tanks are required for all solid fuel applications and can also be ordered as an optional extra.
